Anna Soubry MP Meets with Transport Secretary to Discuss Midland Mainline

Thursday, 5 July, 2012

Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry has met again with Transport Secretary, Justine Greening as part of the campaign to upgrade and electrify the Midland Mainline.

Anna and a number of other Conservative East Midlands MP’s met Justine and afterwards Anna said  “There is a clear and compelling economic case to improve the railway line from London to Sheffield and I didn’t hesitate to make it to the Secretary of State. Modernising Midland Mainline will bring real benefits to business along the route and to passengers; in particular there will be real benefits to Beeston where the station serves the Business Park and Boots.  People in Greater Nottingham have waited a long time for a fast and efficient rail service to London and to Sheffield and I will continue to lobby the Government to invest in the East Midlands”.

Anna Soubry spoke in a Parliamentary debate about the need to improve the Midland Mainline which was supported by MP’s from all political parties. Anna was one of 20 MP’s  who signed a letter to the Minister Theresa Villiers urging her to secure the upgrading and electrification of the line with the backing of Network Rail, East Midlands Trains and a wide range of key local stakeholders.

An announcement on the future of the line is expected before the end of the month.
