Chilwell Road / High Road Traders "enough is enough"

Small, independent traders including food outlets and shops met NET on Tuesday (November 27) evening to be told two sections of this part of the tram route will each be CLOSED to traffic for six months, consecutively. This is a very serious situation and I spoke to the Secretary of State for Transport the next day. Patrick McLoughlin shares my concerns and asked me to write to him requesting his advice and an urgent meeting. I have placed a copy of my letter at the bottom of this page.

Copies of the letter have also gone to the Borough, City and County Councils as well as to NET. I will distribute copies to traders on High Road and Chilwell Road.

My letter is self explanatory! I will also contact Broxtowe Borough Council to see what more they can do to assist traders with what is in truth an intolerable situation.

This hugely disruptive project will take a number of years to complete. I have attached the latest information on the workings in Beeston, Chilwell and Toton below so please scroll down.

I know the works are affecting peoples lives  and in particular adding to our already congested roads. NET have assured me that if they know where the prolems are they will do everything they can to solve them.

Drop-in Sessions

There will be 2 drop-in sessions in December, where the latest project information will be available and there will be the opportunity to meet and ask questions of members of the NET Project Team; the tram concessionaire which has the contract to build and operate the tram extensions, Tramlink Nottingham; and representatives of the contractor, Taylor Woodrow Alstom, which is carrying out the works.

The Chilwell area drop-in session will take place at Eskdale Junior School, between 5:30pm and 8:00pm on Tuesday 4th December 2012.

The Beeston area drop-in session will take place at Beeston Town Hall, between 5:30pm and 8:00pm on Thursday 13th December 2012.
