UK Coal has applied for permission for an open cast site at "Shortwood" a 325 acre site of Green Belt land between Trowell and Cossall.
The application to Notts County Council can be read at:http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/planningsearch/plandisp.aspx?AppNo=ES/2569
UK Coal seek to extract 1.5 million tonnes of coal and fire clay from the site with four lorries an hour making a long journey on already overly congested roads, from the site via Trowell, Nuthall roundabout, down the M1 and onward to Radcliffe - on - Soar Power Station.
UK Coal has made a number of applications to mine at the site. Their last application in the early 1990's only failed on a technicality so this is going to be a tough and long campaign!
Notts County Council will NOT be considering the application until early next year as they have asked UK Coal for further information. Broxtowe Borough Council were asked for their views and they made their opposition to the plans clear.
