"It really is profoundly disappointing that Stapleford's own elected representatives did nothing to thwart the Borough Council's plans indeed some spoke in favour of the target for 6,150 houses, many thousands of which will be built on Green Belt land".

Anna attended Wednesday evenings meeting along with members of STRAG - the Stapleford and Trowell Rural Action Group. Only Conservative Councillors spoke up and voted to keep Field Farm from development; one Lib Dem Councillor from Beeston also rejected the target of 6,150 homes.

UK Coal want to mine a 325 acre site called Shortwood on Green Belt land between the two villages and have applied to Notts County Council for permission.

"We anticipated the application" said Anna "back in 2009 UK Coal indicated they were likely to make an application and I organised public meetings in Trowell and Cossall."

The plans are for surface mining to extract 1.5 million tonnes of coal and firclay. Four lorries an hour would go through Trowell, upto Nuthall roundabout, onto the M1 and along the A453 to Radcliffe-on-Soar Power Station.

The Cabinet of Broxtowe Borough Council voted 4-3 in favour of plans that would see 6,105 houses being built in Broxtowe but with only enough brownfield land for 2-3,000. Labour and Lib Dem Councillors who control Broxtowe voted in favour of the controversial plans with the Conservatives voting against.

Moorgreen residents have suffered from speeding cars and heavy lorries for years. So local, Paul Turner, contacted MP Anna Soubry who readily asked to meet him and fellow residents in the Horse and Groom car park at the top of Moorgreen. A meeing with residents, police, local Councillors and Anna soon followed and as a result a "Speed Watch" was formed.

A dozen or so residents volunteered to train as speed gun operators at four locations on Moorgreen and from today they are ready for action.
