I very much enjoyed a visit to Stapleford today, along with Michael Fallon, Secretary of State for Defence. Michael and I visited a number of Stapleford businesses, including the wonderful Shabbylicious and All Things Pretty.Stapleford, like all of Broxtowe’s towns, boasts some wonderful independent businesses!
Michael was particularly impressed by the large variety of locally brewed real ales available in the Horse and Jockey and it was a great opportunity to discuss the local and national issues affecting Broxtowe. It was great to be joined by Independent Stapleford Town Cuncillor, Richard MacRae, who talked to Michael about issues that he has experienced in Stapleford. Michael praised the work that has been done locally by Richard, in particular, his dedication to bringing jobs fairs to Stapleford.
It was a real pleasure (and a complete coincidence), to bump into Richard Stark at the Walter Parker Victoria Cross Memorial.Richard told us all about how he had known Walter Parker and it was wonderful to hear a little more about his life. I look forward to returning to Stapleford next week for the installation of the WW1 Memorial Bench.
