Conservative Mia Kee wins Toton by election with 4.6% swing from Labour

Conservative Mia Kee has won the Toton & Chilwell Meadows by-election.

Mia, who is a well known local campaigner against housing development in Toton’s Green Belt, took almost 55% of votes cast on Thursday achieving a swing from Labour of 4.6%.

Anna Soubry, Member of Parliament for Broxtowe, said;

“Mia has been instrumental in our campaign to save Toton’s Green Belt – I have worked with her for some time and I know she will be a strong and determined voice representing her community at the Town Hall. Despite spells in hospital during the campaign for Mia and her husband this fantastic result shows that overwhelmingly people endorse our campaign against the Borough Council’s plans for large scale housing developments on our Green Belt.”

The by-election was caused by the death of Conservative Councillor Marilyn Hegyi in October.

Mia Kee, Conservative – 952

David Patrick, Labour – 454

Darryl Paxford, UKIP – 340
