Anna welcomed the announcement from the Secretary of State for Transport that the HS2 East Midlands Hub will be situated at Toton Sidings, Stapleford. Anna believes this is an excellent opportunity for Toton, Stapleford and Broxtowe as a whole. Not only will it bring better transport connections, it will also relieve pressure on the busy Midland Main Line whilst also creating local jobs, apprenticeships and business opportunities.
Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry has won her campaign for fair HS2 compensation in Trowell. The Government and HS2 have agreed to extend the planned rural communities compensation scheme to include the village. Anna organised Trowell residents to have their say and led the campaign. Anna is still calling for the Government to review plans for a 60 foot viaduct through Trowell. Anna Soubry has called on HS2 to meet villagers at a public meeting in Trowell and provide a model of the proposed viaduct. Anna believes there must be an alternative which HS2 must explore – a 60 foot viaduct will destroy the quality of life in the village and will completely dominate Trowell. Anna welcomed Transport Minister Andrew Jones to Broxtowe on 9th February 2017 to see the impact of HS2 in the constituency. The visit included the Head of Route Engineering for HS2 and Anna asked him to rethink the plans so that residents would not be as affected.
In May 2018 I wrote to the Transport Secretary raising further issues about HS2 in Broxtowe, you can read this letter here.
