MP Anna Soubry joined Veterans, members of the Royal Engineers based at Chetwynd Barracks in Chilwell, members of the Royal British Legion and Broxtowe Borough Councillors to launch Armed Forces week. The flag marking this Saturdays Armed Forces Day was raised in Beeston this morning. Members of Forces in the Community, which is based in the town, also attended what is now an annual event.
“Armed Forces Day reminds us of the continuing dedication and sacrifice of our serving personnel and our Veterans. Making sure we do the right thing by both groups as individuals and as a society is vitally important” said Anna, who is also the Minister for Veterans.
Broxtowe Borough Council hosted the event as part of their dedicated commitment to the Armed Forces Community Covenant.
Anna added “I know I have political differences with Broxtowe Borough Council, but when it comes to their work locally to fulfil and advance the Community Covenant they are outstanding. I was also pleased to see they had involved two of our finest military charities at the ceremony; the Royal British Legion and Forces in the Community are doing a great job for Veterans, especially when they fall on hard times.”
