Anna Soubry Supports Erewash MP’s Campaign for Train Station in Ilkeston

Anna Soubry MP has announced her support for the Member of Parliament for Erewash, Jessica Lee’s campaign to re-open a train station in Ilkeston.  In a letter to the Transport Secretary, Justine Greening MP, Anna stated:

“A railway station at Ilkeston would have considerable benefit to people living in my constituency. In particular, it would serve the people of Trowell which abuts Ilkeston as well as the town of Stapleford and even Kimberley. Any improvement in public transport would mean fewer cars on the heavily congested roads on the western side of my constituency.

Therefore, in short, I fully support Jessica’s considerable efforts to re-open a railway station at Ilkeston. It would truly serve a substantial population if it could also link Ilkeston to Nottingham; in any event, I have no doubt that the line will lead to a substantial reduction in existing car usage and would mitigate the effect of building new homes in both Broxtowe and Erewash.”
