Anna has asked the Minister for Schools, Nick Gibb MP, to assist Foxwood Special School in achieving academy Status.
In the debate on academy schools on 16th June, Anna said:
“I visited Foxwood special school in my constituency on Friday and learned how keen it is to obtain academy status. Will the Minister help Foxwood and other special schools by encouraging them to apply for that status, and will he particularly assist Foxwood school?”
Nick Gibb replied favourably, stating: “One of the changes proposed in the Education Bill is to allow academy status to apply to special schools as well. I would be very happy to help my hon. Friend; if she and the head teacher of that particular special school would like a meeting in the Department to discuss academy status, I would be delighted to arrange it.”
Anna has since written to Nick Gibb to formalise a meeting between herself and Foxwood School’s headteacher, Chris Humphries.
