Save Field Farm campaigners handed a petition of over a thousand signatures to local MP Anna Soubry at a public meeting.
The petition has been organised by Stapleford residents Richard MacRae and Dave Pearson who are fighting to save Field Farm from development.
Over 150 people attended Saturdays meeting The Jaguar pub in Stapleford to protest at plans to build 450 houses on the Green Belt site between Stapleford and Trowell.
“Broxtowe Borough Council made this Green Belt site its number one site for development despite enough brown field land to build more than 3,000 houses. The Borough Council insist on accepting housing target that is way to high and which does not reflect the housing needs of the area” said Anna. “It is not too late for people to have their say and I urge everyone to write to the Borough Council”.
Broxtowe Borough Council are expected to consider the planning application in the next few months. Labour and Lib Dem Councillors defended their views in letters to the meeting with one only one attending in person.
“No Councillor is above the views of their constituents and has an absolute duty to represent those views” said local campaigner David Park.
